Nancy Tanner has enjoyed a lifetime love of the arts. Inspired by a first place ribbon at the county fair at age 9, she explored drawing, painting, printmaking, and many other mediums while growing up. She earned her AA in art from Modesto Junior College, followed by a BA in Liberal Arts w/Art concentration.

Fueled by the desire to share her passion with many, Nancy pursued a career in teaching elementary aged children, which included many hours of art instruction in addition to academics. Throughout those 25 years her focus was nurturing young minds, so she put her own work on hold.

Nancy has recently retired and lives in beautiful Arnold, CA with her husband, Stephen Verschelden and 3 dogs, where they enjoy skiing, hiking, kayaking and all things the come with the mountains. Endlessly inspired by the beauty of nature, Nancy now enjoys time in the studio, creating images with intent to share joy and appreciation of our beautiful, natural world.

Having worked in many mediums, Nancy decided to try soft pastels in 2019. Studying under master pastelist Alain Picard, she is completely smitten by the magic of those dusty little sticks, and is currently working with pastel exclusively.

In addition to Arts of Bear Valley, Nancy is a member of Red Rock Pastel Society and Calaveras Art Council. She is looking forward to sharing her work and supporting the arts in her community.
